Question:

I have a GE fridge and now the fan is not working and it's making a "click" sound... Should I turn it off ?

  1. pull the frig out and look and see if something is hitting the fan


  2. If the condenser fan failed the pressure of the refrigerant would be very high because it would be very hot.  The compressor motor would not be able to overcome the high head pressure so the Klixon would be clicking off to protect the motor.  If you were to put you hand on the compressor it would probably be extremely hot.  

  3. If its over 5 years old, I recommend buying a new one, and save on electricity.

  4. Clean the fan blades. Dirty blades will cause it to be out of balance and make noises.

    If it is a side by side the fan is in the freezer side easy to get at by emptying the freezer and removing the back panel screws. possibly only remove the ice maker and light bulb protector.
