I have a Greek-Cypriot national ID with photo. Is that enough to enter into UK?

I don't have time to issue a passport and I have to travel with my national ID card. Will I be allowed to enter to the UK?

I tried to find some relevant information from the Greek-Cypriot and British Embassy's website with no success. Could someone help me please?

Many thanks in advance.

  1. Ring the British Embassy, it would be quicker then trying to find it on the website.

You should also call the airline you're going to travel with, if you can't provide ID that they will accept you won't be able to get on the plane any way so entry into the UK will be irrelevant.

  2. Under EU law it should be enough but without a passport it will take many hours of interviews with immigration officers to get into the UK.

  3. No you need a passport.

  4. A valid national ID card issued by the Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία is legally sufficient for travel to the UK. No passport is required.
