If I fiddle with the connectors it starts up, so I can only assume something has come loose inside the module. I have searched for this one and can find nothing is there another possible from another manufacturer or even from a motorcycle which may fit?

  1. Is it possible the plug is bad instead of the module? It's hard to believe that a Honda outboard dealer cannot get the part for you.

  2. Sounds like broken wires. Fiddle with each wire to find out the bad guy. Then wire round the connector. If your problem turns out to be right where the wires come out of the pac, you can soak that edge of the pac in paint stripper to get to the wires for a solder job. Hondas 7.5 to 10hp from 1980 till they brought out the 8hp in 2000?or so had the same ignition. It ran off a trigger under the cam wheel and an exciter coil under the flywheel. You might be able to back engineer to that ignition.
