I have a Humax PVR9200T, how do I play files from it on my pc?

Question

I have the above PVR and can easily transfer the recorded files onto my PC but cannot play them. The file format is called .ts

Any ideas on codecs available for windows media player? or even better a free program available to convert .ts files to mpeg/avi?. I've searched download.com to no avail. Many thanks in advance
