Question:

I have a Insignia LCD 19" TV that i wish to hook my Kawasaki 5 disc Dvd Changer yup to so i can get surround..

so i can get surround sound while watching television. The LCD TV has audio output so i know that it is capable , not sure with the surround sound system, it has AV input but i dont think thats what its for, im not very experienced and dont know much so please help! i know i will need audio cables too, what will they look like?

  1. It's unclear from your question if the Kawasaki is a surround sound system or only a 5 disc DVD player.

    If the former (there will be surround speaker connections) and it has at least a stereo audio input (red/white RCA) you can connect the TV audio out to the Kawasaki with a simple dual red/white RCA cable. You won't get true surround from a stereo connection but you could get matrix if the Kawasaki has a Dolby ProLogic setting.

    If there is an optical (square black socket) or digital coax (orange RCA) input on the Kawasaki you could get surround, but it's unlikely you have an output on the TV to match it. If not, you can't get true surround.

    If the Kawasaki is a DVD player only, you could potentially get sound (not surround) on the TV from DVDs but you can't get TV sound on the DVD player. They are both source devices and you would need an amplifier or receiver to hook them to and to power the speakers.
