I have a JVC HD 54" TV. When I try to put it in HDTV mode it just has this weird color pattern or nothing?

  1. What do you mean by HDTV mode?

    TVs automatically detect their source and automatically process video as needed.

    Do you have an HD source?

    You may try to do some color calibration.  Just use an HD source and the TV will work as needed.
