  1. It depends on the connections on the sub. See a typical input panel (and some discussion) at the link.

    If there is an RCA type connection this will accept a line from the LFE (often marked "sub out") output from the receiver. Done.

    If there is no RCA input, or no sub output on the receiver, BUT there is a speaker terminal block (or binding posts) on the sub, you can wire the seaker wires from the front right and left speakers to the input posts and run new wires from the output on the sub to the speakers. The sub will now "take" and amplify the low (bass) notes and send the mid/high notes on to the regular speakers.

    If all you have is a sub with nothing but a speaker terminal input you need a sub-amplifier with a built in crossover.
