It was working fine and this morning when I went to throw some clothes in the dryer, i realized that it wasn't spinning. Is the dryer shot or is this an easy fix? Also is it a DIY job?

  1. Two problems.  Either the transmission is gone, which is a big problem or the belt is broken.  It is easy to change the belt.

IMPORTANT!  Disconnect the power to the dryer before working on it!

Open the dryer and see if the belt is broken.  If it is, go to your local dealer of that type of dryer or a appliance repair shop and get a new one and install it.

If the belt is good, the transmissions are usually about the same price as a dryer.  It is suggested by consumer reports that an older dryer be replaced instead of repaired, but you have to make that judgement yourself.  If it is older than 10 years, and the repair is more than a belt, probably buying a new one makes sense.

  2. could be a belt or the motor that runs your barrel . It could be a simple thing to fix but if you dont know what you are doing you could mess things up more

  3. Look in the phone book for a good appliance parts shop. You might also have to replace the wheels that the drum sits on. Depending on your skills it might not be to hard. Below is a link that might help.

  4. Your belt that turns the drum is broken.  You'll need to call a repairman to fix it.  Unless you are a do-it-yourselfer, don't try it by yourself.  Its too confusing to take apart and put back together.

  5. I had this happen when I put in too many heavy wet terry cloth towels and bathrobe; i snapped the main belt. I watched the guy fix it by removing the front pannel. the belt was larger than i expected because it needed to go around the circumference of the tub.

  6. You can take the model and serial number to Sears and they can provide you with a new belt.  Or most appliance repair stores carry belts for your Kenmore product.

  7. If you hear the motor running, replace the belt! ;-)=

  8. Sounds like you need a new belt. Look at the outside of the drum to see if it broke. It goes around a pulley and it's not real hard to fix yourself.

  9. i bet the belt is off. check this site it tell how to fix it:
