I found out it is due to that the radio gets too hot in my suv. It only happens when it is a HOT day which is pretty much everyday in Southeast Texas!! I was wondering if there is any way to insulate the dash around the radio? Is anyone else having this problem? A friend of mine has the same radio, and it happened to him 2 times when it was x-treamly hot. He started to put the window shades on his front glass n havent had a problem yet. But my radio is located right there on top of dash and it didnt help at all!! Any suggestions??

  1. Insulation won't help you, because the radio generates its own heat.  Insulating it will just make it hotter.

Make sure the heat sink area at the back of the unit is clear and see if you can create some space around it.  Finding a way to vent air out the top of your dash might help, but there's probably no way to do that without drilling some unsightly holes.

If you get an amplifier to run your speakers, the Kenwood head unit won't generate so much heat--it's the built-in amplifier that heats up.  That would solve your problem and improve your sound quality at the same time.

  2. your only option (and that's if you have room inside of the dash) is to install a fan
