I have a Kenwood receiver

I have a Kenwood receiver (VR-606) and the sound keeps cutting out within minutes of operation. The speakers make a loud sound (almost as if they are going to blow) before the sound cuts out. Turning off the receiver and then turning it on again seems to help, but the problem keeps persisting. Any thoughts?
