I forgot to mention I am living in Ireland and you have

to take a contract out with an internet provider, but I have heard that you can get some sort of card that allows you to hone in on somebody else's service.

I only want to be able to check for e mails, is it possible or were they joking.

  1. If you are somewhere that offers free wi-fi like a 'Hot Spot', you could - if you have an Airport card in the mac. If you are home, you are going to have to get an internet provider (Cox, Comcast, Earthlink, etc)

  2. I'm a mac genius I used to work at a mac store, I don't understand  your question.

    I got your message,

depending on how old is your macbook you should have an internal wireless card, you can check by going to the little apple in the top left conner  > About this Mac > More Info > network > if it list an Airport Card you are set :)

to access free networks such in airports or hotels:

you can click on the top menu the wireless button and select the network you want to join ( you need to be with in the range of the network)

if you can't find the network button go to system preferences >  network> Airport > assist me

    good luck.
