I have 2 beautiful male bettas. One of them has a problem with his eyes. They look swollen and white. Anyone know what this is and how to treat it. I've had him for about a year and nothing else has changed. Water changes are on time and same every time.

  1. Sounds like popeye which is a bacterial infection usually caused by poor water conditions.  A betta should be housed in a 5 gallon heated filtered tank.

  2. well from what you described, i would say that it is pop eye.

       * Pop eye (exophtalmia) can result from rough handling, gas embolism, tumors, bacterial infection, or vitamin A deficiency. Gas bubble or bacterial infection can be treated successfully with penicillin or amoxicillin.

if your infected beta is with the clean betta i recommend you take the infected one out immediately and put him into a quarantine tank so the disease does not spread to the other one. If you want to look into it more, go to http://www.fishlore.com/aquariummagazine...

  3. maybe you might want to take that one individual fish to Petsmart, or the pet hospital.

The condition could worsen and either way you will want to know what is going on with your fish =) i hope things get better.
