I can't seem to find info on this subject so I'm asking for help. I have a 3 year old son, which i have been there for since he was born. I moved to florida when he turned 1 years old. I was having good relationships with his mother until recently (we been split before I moved). My son has been coming to florida to visit me a couple months during a year (in which my parents help me pay), but he stays in nj with his mother. His mother decided to put my son in a private school for reasons I have no clue to and she wanted me to pay it. In my case I could not because I have a liver problem and i have been consider disable by doctors. She decided to take me for child support in NJ, were they concluded i needed to pay child support. The thing is that a officer decided how much i needed to pay, etc. I called way before the hearing for me to be called over phone to prove my case of being disable. They never called and ruled i Must pay. I have no clue how im suppose to pay if I can not work. Isnt this injustice if they concluded i must pay 80 dollars a week if i never worked a day in my life and have been cinsider disable since 15? Can someone tell me how am i suppose to go about this? Thank you.

  1. Don't know what to tell you. You were well enough to produce a child. The part about an officer deciding how much you pay is fraudulent. This is decided in court by a judge. You will be contacted (possibly by phone) and sent the paperwork from the court which will tell you what the amount, if any, is to be paid. The private school will not be included. Why would a 3 year old be in a Private school? Until you are officially notified with legal papers, don't worry about it. This does not mean I I agree with you not paying for support of your child. Not sure if you can draw SSI Disability benefits if you have never worked. The amount is based on how many quarters of employment you worked.

  2. how does a liver condition prevent you from getting a job?

  3. 80.00 a week is the min amount , child support is required and it is required that you pay it. If you do not you can lose your drivers license , if it goes further you can spend a year in jail , you are also responsible for half the medical bills, how disabled are you , you can type on a  computer there are plenty of jobs that require that. It is unjust to create a child and offer no assistance in raising it .

  4. Regardless of your disability, you still have ot pay child support.  This amount should be proportional to your income.  If you are that disabled, you should be receiving disability and other state benefits.  A portion of that income should be going to your son.

You are not obligated to pay for his private schooling, but you are obligated to pay something.  Try to find work, any way you can.  There are at home phone operators for things like making travel reservations and such that allow you a flexible schedule and to stay at home.  Try to find some sort of work if you can.  Either way, you are still responsible to pay for your son in some way.
