I have a Mercury 125 elpto outboard engine on my Bayliner Capri. How do I tell if it is 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

  1. Do you add oil to the gas you put in the tank?  If you do, then it's a 2-stroke.  If the engine has a separate oil reservoir, then it's a 4-stroke.


  2. A very easy way to tell is look for an oil dipstick on the engine.

    If it has one, it's a four-stroke. If it's mixed gas or oil injected, it's a two-stroke.
