Nikon & Canon has 52mm close up lens, I was wondering if there's a way I can use a close up lens with my 55mm. I'm trying to save some money, instead of buying a macro lens.

  1. Short and simple answer:

Your Nikon 18-55mm lens takes 52mm filters and attachments.  A 52mm closeup filter will work just fine.

  2. Unless you get macro lens filter for your lens, you'll have to get a macro lens.

Macro lens filters are basically magnifying glasses that attach to the threads of the lens.  They come in things like +1, +4, etc.  Is this what you're asking about when you say 52mm?  They do come in different sizes...57 mm, 62 mm, 72 mm.  That's the size of threads your particular lens has.  When a lens says it's 18-55mm, that's a totally different measurement.  On the front of the lens, it'll have a solitary number with mm after it.  That's the size you want.

    Hope this helps.

  3. A better way would be to set the dial to macro (the flower) and then your 18-55 lens will be able to get as close as a few inches and give you sharp close ups.
