I have a Nikon N2000

Question

i have a Nikon N2000 it was givin to me and it is virtually new except the baterries were left in it and correded the friend that gave it to me took out the batteriesand cleaned( the best he could) the corrosion i put new batteries in and it wont power. i also noticed that it looked like the battery holder had on of the ends replaced before and maybe is not makeing a good connection?? has anyone ever had this problem and if so is there a fix you might recomend? thank you for any help
