I have a Nikon d60 my AF-assist light wont turn off I read the manual & cant figure it out I want NO FLASH

I need to take pictures at a gymnastics competition and cannot have any flash or light from my camera for safety reasons.

I have been taking pictures for a few months without the AF-assist coming on (when i manually turn the flash off) the other day I started taking pics and the blinding light was on I have tried to figure this out and cannot please help

  1. On Page 57 of the manual (I linked it here), go to Custom settings and turn AF assist light to OFF as opposed to the default ON.  Also, check out page 111.

    Also, if you choose continuous servo AF, manual Focus, Sport Scene and landscape modes, the AF assist light will not turn on.
