Sound will go thru the receiver to the TV from the PS3 as will the sound from the Comcast Box. But when I turn on the internal muting on the TV to mute the TV speakers, there is no sound coming from the speakers for PS3 activity. I do get sound from the TV to come thru the receivers to the speaker system, and I am able to get sound from the speakers during the test tone on the receiver. Any ideas about this problem?

  1. How are you connected to the TV - HDMI?  How are you connected to the receiver - Optical?  You have to set up how the PS3 outputs sound in the setup.  Make sure it is set to the connection that you are using to your receiver.

  2. Most receivers with HDMI only allow for HDMI "passthrough" for switching between HDMI devices.  In order to use your surround receiver with your PS3 you will need to connect the PS3s  optical digital output to your receiver.  You will also need to enable the PS3s optical output from the PS3s set-up menu.

  3. the ps3 can onli output one audio source at a time for most materials...so for this case, i believe yr sound settings is hdmi which is connected to yr tv..and yr receiver via optical. u will need to change the sound settings of the ps3 to optical and u will hear the sound from yr receiver. do note that some settings might be needed on yr receiver, such as assignment of input and output for the input u used on the receiver.
