I have a Pioneer AVH-P6600 car dvd player, I planning to install it myself....?

I was wondering if i could install the unit without the brain(module that allows you to add additional screens) and have it fully functional. I heard that you still need the brain installed even if you don't plan on adding screens. Is this true???
