  1. The huns were nomadic conquerors - in traveling to make their conquests, they almost literally lived on the backs of their horses.  Essentially I agree with everything the first answerer said.  

    By the way, A World Lit Only By Fire is a really good book.  Cheers!


  2. It means that during their invasion their entire world or country came with them (not literally) as they were on horseback all the time.

    So that their whole world became a life of invasion on horseback, that was all they did, that was their country.
