  1. it's for wrapping or swaddling your baby the first few months after he's born. I used to put it on my shoulder when burping her and also I would fold it and put it in the crib as a sort of a flat pillow. So it kind of has a lot of uses......

  2. swaddling the baby!!  It also helps to use as a towel and a spit up rag sometimes.. I always carry mine around for a spit up rag or if it gets cold in a building can cover her :)

Your baby should be given to you swaddled after the birth(hence the word 'recieving blanket')... hospital staff can help you learn how if you ask, they do it all day every day to the newborns!

Sign up at babyzone.com, it's free and saved me with my questions when my kids were born!!

  3. Mostly swaddling, thogh for that a "Swaddle-Me" is WAY better (easy and secure). After that, it's great for anti-spit-up sheild! Throw one over your shoulder as you hold the baby.

Remember that it's recomended that infants NOT use a blanket to sleep. Get a "Sleep Sack" or "Swaddle Me" type thing. Blankets can be a suffocation hazzard for babies that can't move themselves. The SIDS alliance also states that blankets increase the risk of SIDS.

  4. All the ones I got were way too small for swaddling. Everyone told me that I needed tons of them, but I could have done with just one or two. I used them to cover her in the car seat when it was chilly, but that's about it. If you have a baby that spits up a lot, they're good for using as giant burp cloths, too.

  5. Receiving blankets are awesome! They're main purpose is swaddling. The nurse in the hospital will teach you how, and trust me sometimes you NEED to swaddle the baby. It helped with both of my kids when they were infants. They may also be used as a light blanket when its warm out and you dont need a thick blanket. My daughter is 9 months old, and we are still using receiving blankets for her!

  6. I never use them.

  7. They're wonderful little things, and they're extremely useful.  My baby has a complete receiving blanket wardrobe.  They're great for swaddling, just make sure you get big ones.  The ones they sell at Wal-Mart are way too small for swaddling.  I make my own from one yard of flannel.  They are blankets for keeping out the sun or keeping baby warm, they are burp cloths, they are changing table covers, nursing covers, you can roll them up to support baby's head in the carseat.  You can use them to lay baby down on the floor for tummy time, and to keep bugs off of baby if you're outside.  If you use cloth diapers (and I highly recommend them), then receiving blankets are emergency diapers.

  8. It's a blanket to hold the baby in or to use in the stroller.

  9. We used them to swaddle our son.

  10. get lots.  the lightweight blankets are great for swaddling, or for putting over a swaddled baby and tucked into the sides of the crib/bassinet.

  11. it's a small blanket that can be used for lots of things.  i usually keep a couple in the car, a couple in the diaper bag, a stack by the changing table... they are great for tucking around your baby in a car seat, wrapping around your baby to swaddle while sleeping or nursing, covering the changing pad (they are a lot cheaper and easier to wash than changing pad covers), tucking around baby to get the right position for nursing, extra burp cloths... they are really handy.  i have dozens of them.

  12. My wife and I used these for when the baby would spit up after eating or to wipe the drool away. If you don't have them, you will constantly be looking for something to clean with that is sanitary for your baby. Trust me, there is alot of spit up in the beginning. Our daughter is 7 months now and we use them everyday still. I would recommend having at least 10 on hand.

  13. Receiving blankets are wonderful creations.  They are a light blanket that is used for swaddling baby, covering baby, covering you while you feed baby, laying under baby on the floor, well - pretty much anything!  My favorite use was to wrap my little guys up tight at bedtime and lay them down because they went right to sleep.  It made them feel super secure, and they slept longer!

I'm not sure if there is a technical reason...but that's what they were used for at our house!

    Best wishes!!!

  14. technically a recieving blanket is to catch puke when burp your newborn.  I used it for everything though...to swaddle, or as a light blanket in the summer, or anything you can really think of

  15. It's great for swaddling, covering the baby, using it to wipe up drool or milk.

  16. It can be used mostly for swaddling a baby. In the hospital they will show you how to do, and if not just ask a nurse, babies love them I deff suggest getting lots!

I also use mine to cover the car seat up, to protect my daughter from the sun and wind.

  17. RECIEVING BLANKET IS AN ALL AROUND BLANKET ..IT CAN BE USED FOR SWADDLING, OR AS A REGULAR BLANKET..MY SON IS 6 MONTHS OLD AND WE STILL USE THEM AS A BLANKET FOR SLEEPING

  18. Yo can use them as spit rags, protection on your shoulder when burping baby.  Or use them to cover yourself when breastfeeding...they are basically a multi purpose blanket.

  19. You can use them to swaddle your baby, when its not too cold or not really warm outside you can use them to cover your baby, my son loves to play with them (i dont know why) they make good spit rags when you dont have one handy, I use them to cover up the diaper changing station at stores, and my son loves to cuddle with them... They really serve alot of purposes!

  20. They are light weight so they are good for swaddling. Many parents use swaddling blankets with Velcro closures now because they are easier and it is harder for the baby to escape and wake up.

I use a slightly heavier recieving blanket as my daughter's blanket in the crib. I use the normal light weight ones as... well, they have lots of purposes. I keep one in the diaper bag in case it gets cold or rains, I've used them to cover up while nursing, they can be a 'clean' place to lay baby on when you go visit friends or family.

  21. we use it for swaddling, as a bib when feeding if tehres no bib around, wiping up drool and other messes, we have like 20!! and use them for everything, if baby starts peeing and you havnet got a diaper out yet we ususally have a blanket handy to just toss on here or there

we use them as normal blankets or just to cover up her toes in teh carseat or swing

they have proven very handy, and once they are all gross and stuff we will probbly use them as rags
