I have a Scott's lawnmower and the motor surges when running. What's a possible problem?

Scott's 6.25amp, o/h valve, model # - 228530X7A. It's about 7 years old and has had this problem for about a year or so.

  1. sound like your governer arm needs tightining there are little adjustment on it get a buddy that knows how a lawnmower works and have him take a wack at it.

    Dont blame me if they mess it up :\


  2. It's the spring that controls the governer. The spring needs to be tighter.

  3. Make sure the air filter is clean and not acting as a choke drawing in excessive gas/ make sure the engine is tuned (properly adjusted air jets and slow Idle nut. make sure no grass and junk is binding the linkage to the governor arm / and make sure the spring on the governor is not sloppy loose.
