I have a Sony DCR-SR45?

It has a 30g hard drive, when i record and then hit stand bye than start to record again all the video shows up as separate clips,each time i start recording and pause and start again , I am left with alot of clips instead of one continues movie,,Why?

Maybe it was designed to cut into segments in order to select various segments easily during editing. Searching/selecting/cutting segments thru a whole movie file, say a one hour movie file, would waste lots of precious time.

If the movie is NOT intended  for edit, fine... a continuous file is ok.

Anyways, it's a lot easier to combine several cut segments to form one movie thru a video editing app than searching/ selecting/ cutting segments, if later you decide to edit the movie.

That is how the camera was designed to work.

Also, if you record for over 20 minutes, the clip will be cut into 20 minute segments + whatever is left over.
