I have a Sony RDR-VX 500 DVD-VHS recorder works good for about 2 hours then stops. I read on net possible over heat problem I noticed fan in back of unit is not working. Has anyone else had this problem should fan run at all times? is it the fan or problem on the circuit board.

Does it happen while recording or during regular playback? If its during regular playing its overheating and shutting down since you said the fans not working.
