I have a Sony portable radio, how come when i listen to AM radio there is only 1 earphone that emits sound?

  1. I'm not sure what radio you have but I would check the contacts. pull the plug and clean it with alcohol or use a pencil eraser to rub it. Then put it back into the radio and twist it with the headphones on. See if you hear noise.

  3. Very few AM stations broadcast in stereo.  Teh staion you are listening to is what is called monoral, that is the sound comes out of both  speakers and you only  hear the music as one sound, not like in stereo where you can hear diffenent parts of a band in different speakers

  4. Because it's a mono AM station. AM stations have had the opportunity to go stereo fo several years now. Many chose not to buy the equipment and/or make application for the necessary changes to their licenses (mostly because of cost).

    I think the station you listen to is one of them. If it's a talk station in a smaller city, it might not have been a bad decision.
