When hooked to the router it will redirect me to a page that wants me to update my modem password, but then tells me to unhook the router & turn off the firewall, but after I do all this & reconnect it still does the same thing.

Any suggestions?

  1. Contact the manufacture of the router, it should work. We have a spreedstream modem, that works just fine with out d-link router.

  2. The 5100a has to be configured to work with a router!  (ANY ROUTER!)

Here is the link on what you need to do!

Shouldn't be too difficult but does have to be done to use this modem with a router.

I think I misread your question.. Yes you do have to LOGIN to the router in order to configure it!  All routers have a login to protect you from others who would reconfigure it!  Check your ROUTERS documentation for the username and password - many times it is admin/admin  or no username and admin  or root/password  just check your routers setup information!

  3. You will have to first find out if your modem dials to the internet on it's own, or not.

One way to find this out is, if your speed stream modem has a web interface (i.e. you have to go to some URL like http://192.168.1.1 to enter the administration section of your speed stream modem), then it dials itself, but if you have you create an internet connection through Start > Network Connections > Create New Connection, and then every time you restart your computer you have to double click on your connection shortcut and enter your login/password (this might be set to save-login-info), THEN you get online, then your modem doesn't dial on its own.

Now after going through all that to find out what kind of a modem you have, you will be able to configure your router.

In your router, if you modem doesn't dial on its own, you will have to follow the instructions that configure the router to dial for the modem, if your modem does dial on its own, you could either configure the router to just use that port for internet (the router won't try to establish a connection, it will assume the connection has already been established), or you could just hook up your modem to your of the 1 - 4 ethernet ports on your router, this is an easy way to do it, but then you lose 1 port.

If this doesn't solve your problem, repost the question with your Router's name/model number and Modem's name/model number.
