I have a Thai passport and an American visa do i need a visa to travel to Italy and Greece?

You American visa is only good for America....so, yes, a visa is required.

If you are Thai and also a greencard holder OR a Thai with visitor's visa to US, in both cases you will need to apply for visas to both Italy and Greece.

If you are in US on a short term visa, you cannot apply for visas in US, you have to return to Thailand and apply to the consulates there.

lawanladee is correct and you will need a schengen visa which will be good for entry into all EU countries, but you must apply first at the embassy for the country you make entry into the EU.
