Will the upgrade make a significant difference or is it just time for a new machine? The laptop was purchased in 2005.

  1. it will make a difference.  usually 1 GB will do the job but with 2 GB, you will have more room to open and work with more program at once and you will still have enough memory for your windows.  If it's not too expensive and that your laptop is still usable, upgrading is the way to go.

  2. Upgrading to 2 GB will definitely boost your computer's performance. RAM is always worth it if you can afford it. Though RAM is very cheap these days.

About you considering a new computer, it's only worth it if you, again, can afford it and if the whole computer has other problems than just speed. I'm writing from a 2005 model which works wonderfully. I've just upgraded RAM to 2 gigs, it runs better than new.

And at the 2nd commenter, thanks for contributing nothing and making a a moronic comment rather than an answer.

  3. No it is OK

  4. More RAM usually does make a difference  - whenever your programs and data exceed 1 GB now, your machine is forced to swap data on and off the hard drive, which is much slower than RAM.

Your machine can go to a maximum of  1.5 GB of RAM with one 1 GB SODIMM -- it has 512 MB built in and only 1 socket.

  5. go on this site www.crucial.com u can find there how to upgrade RAM.
