I recently accquirred a US nickel from the year 1963. I believe it is amde of silver, like most or all coins made before 1965. When I looked at it it appeared to have three words etched, or pressed into it somehow. they were on top of each other centered. the top word I am not sure of. The middle word appears to be "reeche" and the bottom word appears to be "pat", no quotations of course. I believe those to be the words, but i could be wrong. another funny thing is it is also indented. It is kind of shaped like a contact lens. I dont know if there is a reason it is like this. Is it random, or is it worth something, I personally doubt it is worth something, but you never know. Please help me identify thes coin.

If you are interested, I could send you a few pictures.

  1. First of all, nickels were only minted with 30% silver from 1942 to 1945 as far as the the stamped letters are concearned . I think it was hippies who stamped that on it . I've heard of similar examples.

  2. Your nickel isn't made of silver.  It's made of nickel (hence the name).

  3. What you have is a nickel (Made of nickel) that someone with metal stamping  tools probably tried to stamp his name on. It is worth a nickel if you can find a nearsighted store clerk who will accept it.

  4. the only silver nickles were 43' 44' and some 45', all other's are nickle. sounds like it got defaced in a stamp .

  5. only quaters and dimes are made of silver from 1664 and below
