I have only seen my midwife once when i was 6-weeks pregnant (am now 17 weeks and 4 days) so i haven't got anyone who i can ask about this!

What do they do at the VBAC (Vaginal birth after cesarean) appointment? Is it just a chat? What things will they ask?

Any help would be appreciated!

  1. When i had my VBAC appointment, they asked me all sorts of questions, like what i would prefer and if they thought my reasons were viable. they gave me the pros and the cons of both, they said if i wanted a c-section and fell pregnant in the future then i would find it hard to deliver naturally, also that it takes longer to heal, id be in hospital longer etc but if i opted for vaginal delivery then id take less time to heal, i could go home the same day if all went ok, id be on my feet a h**l of a lot quicker and that id be able to have another vaginal delivery after if i wanted more children. but they did tell me if i chose vaginal birth then i wouldnt be allowed to have a water birth like i wanted as they wouldnt be able to monitor me properly incase my section scar ruptured, i had vaginal delivery but i want allowed to walk about, i had to be on the monitor practically the whole time, which rally irritated me as i wanted a bath and i wanted to walk about, but other hospitals could be different.

either way, you'll have a clearer idea as to what to do after your appointment!

  2. They will just review your history and determine if it would be appropriate to attempt a VBAC or not. For example, if you had a classical (vertical) uterine incision you would not be considered a candidate for VBAC as classical incisions are far more unstable and prone to rupture during labor.

  3. Im trying for a VBAC with this pregnancy and all of my appts have been normal appts nothing was done differently because i was a VBAC. Except for my last appt on Weds my doctor did a stretch and sweep to help me get going when she checked me. So you shouldn't be expecting anything out of the ordinary but you did say your seeing a midwife so i don't know if they do things differently or not. Good luck !!!
