My old HDTV was a westinghouse 32 and when i flipped on the 1080 p setting on my xbox360 the screen went black and it wouldnt support the signal but the vizio displays it. Any ideas why one set works and the other doesnt?

  1. there is no need to switch on the 1080p setting.  it is just a crappy upconvert through the visio.    those are low grade tvs and it isnt going to make much of a difference in picture any ways.

they difference in 1080 i and 1080p is that i is interlaced and p is progressive scan.

with a 32 inch you will get a great picture no matter 1080i or p (if you are plugged in component or hdmi)

  2. The reason is that your old TV did not have a built in converter and your new one does. It does not display 1080p, it automatically converts it to 1080i so you can watch it even if your source is 1080p.
