  1. NO!!!!  NO!!!!  NO!!!!

    DO NOT CUT AND BURN!!!

If it's truly WWII era please DON'T CUT & BURN IT.  That would ruin the value of it.  Most collectors DO NOT want damage to the item if they would like to but it.

Gather an area together and rub it against itself.  You need to create friction.  When you do, if you smell petroleum, it's nylon.  Silk won't smell like that.

  2. The easiest way to check is to cut off a small piece, no bigger than 1" x 1". Touch an open flame to it and see if it melts. If it does it's nylon. If it's in good shape and has lasted this long you're a lucky fellow!

  3. instead of burning it either look it up online like on wiki or something, if that's a dead end somehow bring it to a fabric store like joann fabrics or something

  4. All i know is to not burn it why would you burn such an amazing piece of history oh yeah only burn it if its german

  5. it in all likelihood it is silk
