I cannot open any of my sent files from home at work. Will installing Word 2003 on my home Vista solve the problem so I can send files to my XP OS at work?

  1. Your problem is to read the 2007 files into the 2003 office. You can do the opposite. You either need to install office 2007 on the office computer or just save the file as a 2003 format on the home computer.

  2. Microsoft has what is called a compatibility pack. Just load this on your computer that is running the 2003 and it will then open the 2007 files with no problem.

    Here's the link

  3. This has nothing to do with the operating system being Windows XP or Windows Vista.  It has to do with the versions of Microsoft Word being able to handle the same files.

There are two solutions for this problem:

    1. In Word 2007, do a Save As and select an earlier version of Word as the file type.

    OR

    2. On the machine with the earlier version of Word, download and install Microsoft’s free Compatibility Pack.

Note that this still won’t give the older version of Word the newer features of Word 2007, and there’s a good chance any such features will be lost on files processed by the older version.

Also note that Word 2007 may need to have a file converter installed off the installation disk to handle the older version’s file format

    Hope that helps.
