Question:

I have a Yamaha XS650 1980us import, all wired up except when I put indicators on, the plugs spark, WHY???

The spark occurs when I switch on headlight and flashes in sequence with relay unit of indicators, I have a wire from the coils and 12v ignition feed which seems to be what gets wired into kill switch but not sure....please help.

  1. your wiring is obviously fubar.  a previous owner may have spliced in some repair wiring that is a different color than the original, which can make things painfully confusing.  see this wiring diagram.  If it is super messed up, you may just have to get a new wiring harness on ebay.

    looking at the diagram, your flasher relay wire colors should be brown, brown/white stripe and yellow/green stripe.

    the ignitor coil wires are orange and red/white, and should be a bit heavier wires.
