let her walk up to the barrel and sniff it. also, practice making turns with her. hope this helps. : )

take it slow and when you can do it at a walk try at a trot and then a canter and then at a gallop the trick is to TAKE IT SLOW and if you can't get her near the drum get off and walk up to it with your rains in your hand do that a couple of times and then get beck on and do it again while your on her over and over again but make shore you don't make her bored with it Coz then she will not do it. i use to have a horse just like her and this made her do it and now as soon she See's the drum's she flys and dose them with out me on her

horses don't do this naturally.  you have to train them.  start with wlking around the barrels in the pattern.  eventually get closer to barrels and go to slow trot.  gradually work up to run and close to barrels.  may take up to a year so don't push or could set back.

I wanted to do this too. I called a $400,000 barrel racing winner and asked her how I should go about training my horse to barrel race. She said if the horse was not born to race, it will take 3-4 years to train it, then another year to get up to full potential. Therefore, it would take at least 5 years before you could be eligible to barrel race in rodeos! Also, if the horse was not bred to barrel race, it will never be fast enough to make good times against the horses who were born TO WIN! I found that it was much easier to buy a horse that already can barrel race, and was born to do so. Yes, they do cost LOTS of money, but if you are serious about barrel racing, you will figure it out!! Good Luck!!
