IF I BREAK OUT THE CONCRETE AROUND THE TREE AND CUT THE ROOTS THAT ARE RAISING UP THE CONCRETE WILL THE TREE STILL GROW. OR IF I DECIDE TO CUT THE TREE DOWN AND LEAVE THE ROOTS UNDER THE GROUND WILL THE ROOTS STAY ALIVE AND REMAIN TO DO DAMAGE TO THE CONCRETE FOUNDATION.

  1. If you cut the tree down, there's a big possibility that new shoots will begin popping up, and you'll have the same problem...depending on how big the tree and the root structure are. My tree sent up shoots all over my yard without any pruning.

Cutting back the roots also depends on the size of the tree. If it has adequate root formation under ground to provide nourishment, it will probably do fine. Tree roots come to the surface in search of water, and is usually the result of "shallow watering." Consider sinking a pipe into the ground, near the base of the tree to deliver water to the roots so they will stay underground.....or water more deeply.

An avocado tree is a great treat...I wouldn't tear it down if I were you. I really miss mine. ):
