after puting a new one in, it is real hard to turn. What elas do you think It do?

Paul has it right..that is why it sheared the key..the crank bent and sheared the key when it seized up..If  you have someone pull the rope for youn real slow and put a small board up next to the crankcase and your ear to the other end..You will hear the "metal to metal" scraping..that sound goes right up the board
