i found a baby snake yesterday in a piece of wood, but my family and i dont know what kind it is. we believe it to be a racer, but we are unsure. it has red and blue stripes on both of it's sides and it's a light blue tone on the bottom. we all looked it up but we still cant tell. we know it's not poisonous but we're still curious.

  1. Does it look like this?

if so it's a San Francisco Garter Snake, and they're endangered (if that is what you found) so put it back, why did you take a snake from the wild in the first place?

Okay, this is hard since you're giving us no idea where you live so we can get what snakes are in the area. But it could be a Blue Stripped garter Snake?

  2. It mostly could be determined by the region you live in,and what area you found it.That does sound familiar here in Tennessee, its maybe a racer.Id call your local herp society, the vet could know. But herpetologist monitor and study reptile activity so that's a definite plan.

  3. a pet store or a vet, or the local petting zoo.

  4. This sounds like a garter snake.  Garter snakes can vary in coloration and design OR it may be a legless lizard.  If you are keeping him as a pet please make sure he will eat for you or just let him go back into the wild!

  5. take it to the vet

  6. Google snake species and pick a site with pictures, you can compare.

  7. Why did you take a snake from the wild?
