  1. Go to work for a computer company and specialize in networks, as opposed to user interfaces or databases.  That is what I did to become a network engineer.


  2. You have to get your Cisco and Microsoft certifications. There are other certification that would be beneficial but those are the main certs.

    Start with Cisco CCNA certification which is lengthy, may take you a minimum of 4-6 months to finish course work, the test may take a few tries. They both cost $$$$ but they will pay themselves off in the end.

    Your comp. eng degree will make you valuable but you will probably need the certifications to get hired.

    If you apply to a network engineer position with out those certifications you need to demonstrate to an employer that you know how to work with MS Server and Exchange and possibly configure switches and routers.

  3. I agree with PoP, a CCNA certification with Cisco will definitely help your career out, a networking cert from them proves that you've learned the ins and outs from them. It will definitely make you more marketable! Good luck.
