  1. You will find you are restricted for choice, as there are not so many fires designed for back boilers and they tend to be more expensive then a normal fire as it does a lot more.

You may be eligible for a Warm front Grant, from the Energy savings trust, Depending on your circumstances.

  2. Whatever fire you do get, it has to have the correct gas pipe connections to mate up with the back boilerand there should be a 3 way gas stop c*ck coming from the back boiler gas pipe.

  3. Back boilers are now pretty obsolete. What fiers you can get are very 80's at best. Only option is to suffer with this or replace the boiler. Neither optiion is cheap though.

  4. Your gas showroom will tell you, but it will be limited! I had the same problem when I couldn't afford a combi boiler, although I did own my own house, I bought an ex council house, I waited around until I saw a local housing association repair man going into a house, and told him that I didn't know where or who to approach for spares for my fire, he was carrying spares for the same fires for the other houses and did the job for me, the other point is when they do refurbs you may be able to pick up fires that are no longer required.

Trouble with gas is the cost of the Engineer to put them in, you have to have all the gas safety certificates etc, so which ever way it will cost a bit.

Do you not have any way of getting a combi boiler, in the long term you should save on your gas consumption

  5. Renewal fire fronts for back boilers are becoming pretty scarce.Back boilers are now obsolete appliances and manufacturers have stopped making the fire fronts.

If you post the make and model of the back boiler it will aid in advising you to what the choices are.
