  1. THEY DON`T MAKE THAT TYPE OF BOILER ANY MORE AS THEY ALL FIT ON THE OUTSIDE WALLS SO THERE WILL BE A FARE AMOUNT OF WORK TO DO, THE ONLY THING TO DO IS GET AS MANY QUOTES AS YOU CAN FOR THIS WORK, LET ME KNOW THE OUTCOME AS WE HAVE THE SAME SORT OF FIRE/BOILER.

P.S. SORRY ABOUT THE CAP lock?

  2. Well, all the pipes you need are there, but I don't think modern boilers can go behind fires. They usually need to be attached to , or close to an outside wall -for the ventilation duct, and to drain off water; as you'll be getting a condensing boiler as the only ones fitted these days. There's also stricter fire regs these days.

So it'll really be the cost of ripping out old boiler - possibly a new fire in front of it, if that's what you fancy - fires in front of back-boilers tend to stick into the room more, so a 'fire-only' can sit further back. You'll need your chimney lining removed and a cap placed on the chimney part used.

Then a new boiler - and I think this will be in a new location.

I did the same thing about 5 years ago - got a new fire as well, and also got the new boiler put in the bathroom and  few other things. The material costs aren't that high - new boiler £500-£900 depending on features. You'll need an approved fitter though - CORGI registered.

I got a quote from British Gas, just for the the new boiler + fitting of £9000 (honest!); and got an independent local to do that work, plus fit  a new bathroom for £2000.

Look for government grants to help as well -there's a bonus to be more energy efficient, so check out local government website.

  3. You cannot convert the boiler that is installed. These are an old type of heating boiler and are not interchangeable with any other boiler.. You have to have a flued Boiler to connect to the chimney liner, which is not manufactured.
