The people at Wal-mart are trying to get me to pay 100 bucks every three months for Acuve Advance but my friend has a mild astigmatism and pays only 110$ a YEAR for her Acuve contacts.

Help?

  1. Is she getting contacts that actually supply her astigmatic Rx?

Exactly because of that price difference, and also because of astigmatic (toric) contacts being marginally thicker, many people with a low degree of astigmatism take the *hit* of not having a perfectly accurate Rx, but have the nearest equivalent sphere power instead.

If the astigmatism is low enough for this to be an option, a prescriber would normally discuss it, and show the difference in vision with and without the astigmatic component.

0.25, 0.50, not normally bothered with.  0.75 sometimes, 1.00 usually, over 1.00 almost always corrected.  But with exceptions.

  2. So, find out where your friend goes, and go there too.
