  1. Well...............if I were you I would check out the swings of Fred Couples, Ryan Moore, Colin Montgomery (to name a few) and see how far they take there swings outside the line on the back swing.

In reality being a lot outside the line is better then being a little inside. I'm sure there are plenty of other things going on in your swing that would benefit from the watchful eye of a good swing coach.  Good Luck!!!

  2. Go and have some lessons with a pro, see if he has video analysis and have a look at your own swing. Also try the ex-planar, it is the best bit of coaching aid for golf i have ever used. It will sort out any outside or too much on the inside swing. Highly Recommended.

  3. Rather than setting up open, have you tried setting up closed? I know it sounds weird, but try the following:

    1. Place your left toe on your desired target line (you can flare this foot open or not as is comfortable for you).

    2. Place your right foot perpendicular to your target line, but rather than having your right toe also on the target line, move it back an inch or two. Not too much, but just a little to close your stance.

This will give you a little bit of room for your hands to move straight back, or a little bit inside on your backswing.

Also, one other tip I've found useful to prevent an overly over-the-top swing (read: outside-in) is to try to tuck my right elbow "under" a little bit at address. This seems to allow my right elbow to naturally fold under as I swing back, rather than producing the slice-generating "flying elbow" or "chicken wing" on the way back.

Finally, it really doesn't matter how you swing back (within reason), but how your downswing goes is very, very important. Don't believe me? Look at Jim Furyk's swing. Now, I would recommend trying to have a good backswing, but if you concentrate on soft hands during the downswing, make sure to keep your right hand from "firing" and let your hands lead the clubhead, you should produce a good inside-out downswing in spite of a bad backswing. Most slices are produced by "casting" the club at the beginning of the downswing. This is when your right hand gets way too active way too early in the downswing. This causes you to lose your lag, which robs you of power, and it also causes the club to really arc to the outside. Then, to get back to the ball, you have to bring the club back inside, and the result is a weak slice.

    I hope this helps!

  4. Just take it back to the inside.

  5. Its ok to take it outside the line(within reason) as long as you can  take the club inside from mid point to top, without loosing your rythym on your downswing
