  1. water is fine.... you should change it sorta often so it doesn't sour.... mine gets changed about monthly, freshened in between by adding what's evaporated... use only filtered water or rain... they don't like floride and chlorine... it will make the tips of the leaves turn brown.... when you change the water, put a drop or two, that's all, of liquid fertilizer in the water..... keep it in a bright location if you want growth, but it will take a low light area and live, just not grow a lot.....

look up that Dracaena link, like the above suggestion!!....

  2. It is up to you I have done both.

I have taken cuttings and grown them in water alone. Just keep them out of direct sun.

In potting soil you can keep the soil moist don't let them dry out.

If you can distilled water is best, it helps keep the leaves from developing brown tips.

Here is more information. I love this plant.

  3. Do a search for ‘Dracaena sanderiana - Lucky Bamboo’, which isn’t a bamboo of any type.

You will find all the information you need to know both for water culture and planted in soil.

  4. we have one at home and ours has root we've kept it in water. and its still growing. so keeping it in water is an option.

    hope this helps

  5. my mom keeps bamboo plants in water. she's had them forever and she has always kept them in water. she changes the water like once to twice a year.
