Question:

I have a belkin router, help with password setup, please?

I've opened its properties and when I try all the different security types it disconnects and says something along the lines of "the settings do not match" I then click on the box it brings up saying open security to check and it brings me back to security setup.

I've tried all the ones that just require password; I'd really like it to be password secured.

Any help much appreciated but I am a layman so please try to be as non tech as poss.

thankyou

  1. uuuuuuuuuu insted of passwording your network why dont you  just make it invisable.

  2. WPA is much more secure than WEP.

MAC address filtering adds another layer of security.

Make sure that the passphrase you enter in the router and the passphrase you enter in the computer are *exactly* the same - upper/lower case counts.  Write the passphrase on a piece of paper and tale it to the router - don't cover any of the holes, they're not there for decoration.  (If anyone gets close enough to read the paper, they're close enough to get into your router anyway.)

  3. Try this. Select password type as WEP. Then choose a  TEN number password. Only numbers, no letters.
