  1. not another betta

  2. I just got a betta fish a few weeks ago and had many questions too.

    Go go:     www.bettafish.com

All your questions will be answered and it is a very helpful web site.    At least is was for me as a new betta fish owner.

  3. If its a male, you do not want to mix it with out bettas. Also, dont mix them with other fish that have large fins, or it will try to fight them, ie male guppies.

I keep a betta in with tetras (30 gallon) and he has been doing great for 2 years.

  4. This all depends on the type of tank you are planning to keep your betta and other fish in. If your not going with an aquarium (filter, heater, air stone etc.) There are only a handful of options here. White Clouds, Rosey Minnows, Danio's, and any other fish of the minnow family would be fine. They do not have long fin's and can live in cold, unfiltered water. Almost all tropical fish need filtration and a heater.  Do not put a male betta in with another betta no matter if it's male or female. The male betta in most cases will still pick on the female till she dies. If you are using an aquarium with the equipment that I mentioned before. You could keep your betta with molly's, platties, dwarf gourami's, almost everything in the tetra family would be fine. But do avoid Serpia Tetra's, and anything the barb family. They are fin nippers. Also betta's should not really be housed in an aquarium over 20 gallons. They will get overwhelmed in something larger and will more then likely just hide out in corner most of the time.  If you are willing to keep up with frequent water changes betta's can also be housed with small goldfish, even in a fish bowl. But I stress the SMALL goldfish part. Goldfish will eat anything that is small enough to fit in their mouths. I hope this gave you some ideas.

  5. The only fish your male can go with is a female Beta fish.

  6. Do not put other male or female bettas together. The males will fight until one or both die. You should only put females and males together when you are going to breed and even then, you have to be careful. I have a male betta who lives with 2 dwarf frogs and 4 ghost shrimp. They are very happy and do not bother each other.
