My neighbor has asked me to take care of their cat while they were gone on vacation (2 weeks). Thursday I went over there and I was briefed on every details. They were going to give me their house key today early before leaving. Looks like they left and forgot about leaving me a key.

I have no way of reaching them. By this time they have reached their destination and they have not contacted me.

Should I break in or call some kind of authorities in the matter and explain the situation?

  1. Are you serious? if you are that cat can not go 2 weeks without being fed.if there is a window to go through I would, or you can call a police officer and help you.. just explain your case, but really I would have made sure they didnt leave without giving you the key..Please if this is real feed that cat

  2. wow that sucks. why would they forget to give you a key? i dont know if the cops or anything could do anything for you. id try to go around the house and see if there are any unlocked doors or windows. or maybe go to one of the neighbors and ask them if they may have a spare key for some reason. did you look around for the key, like under the mat? in the back near a patio door or something? they dont have a cell you can reasch them on?

  3. Definitely check around.  A lot of people leave keys under rocks, in mailboxes, and under mats.  Do you know any of your neighbor's other friends? How about family?  Do you know where they went?  If you don't hear from them in 12-24 hours see if there is an open window.  Then yes call the local police and or maybe see if you can break in without too much damage.  Good luck....Keep us all posted!

  4. Ok what you should do is see if they left the key underneath the door mat in their mail box or under your door mat and or mail box. If you find that they deffinatley didn't give you the key then I would call the authorities and explain the situation. Also maybe see if they left a window unlocked or peek in the window to see if that cats are ok. Another good idea is to call the ASPCA and explain the situation. They may be able to get you in without breaking through any windows.  Also if you know anyone that are related to your neighbor if so look up their last name in the phone book.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Do you have a possible way to get in without doing much damage?  I am sure they wouldn't mind if that was the case, they would want the cat taken care of.

  6. these cats can not go with out food or water for 2weeks.U should ring the authorities.Good luck.

  7. YES! Break in. Find the smallest window and get in urgently. If they are genuine cat lovers, they will thank you - I would. If not, you still need to help the cat. It will die if you don't. Call the Police if you are worried about the consequences about any damage but do not let a cat die - please! Best of luck & thanks for caring.

  8. def try to get in somehow first, a window, or check in places they may have hidden the key. also try to look in a window somewhere and see if you can see that note or a key sitting next to it, that will help your case if you have to call the police.
