I have a bite plate on the top, but my teeth still interlock??? somthin has got to be wrong

i have braces on the bottem too fill in these pretty big gaps... and the bite plate is suppose to stop the teeth on the top and bottem from interlockin....

*im a total worry wart so plzz answer
