I am thinking about breeding my pom when she is fully developed at 24 months. My mother and my sister both want a pup and they are going to wonderful homes. We have always had rescue our whole lives and I am considering breeding her but will need to do further research on the issue before i decide next summer. What my first question is what seasons do they come into season. Is it four times a year of just twice? Do most poms follow the same schedule pretty much or is each dog different like with humans? I know I am at the very beginning of my decision and i have a year to decide. She comes from a wonderful line and I would only breed her once.

  1. most dogs go in heat every 6months.

Pomeranians have a number of health issues:#1 luxating patellas:inherited problems with the kneecaps.Need to get an x-ray of both knees!

#2 collapsing trachea:a problem with the windpipe:you would notice a dog constantly hacking, coughing, especially when excited.

#3 eye problems.Go to the website for CERF.

all breeds are listed here and also the different eye disorders affecting them.

  2. GO ASK IN THE DOG CATEGORY!

  3. You might want to put your question in the DOG Answer's Section.

    This is Birds.

  4. Ok. First of all I need to ask you a couple of questions.

    1. How many B.O.B. has she won? How many B.I.S. has she won?

    2. What are her OFA scores?

    3. Is your dog even breed quality?

    4. Has she had all of her genetic/health tests cleared?

If your pom will be two years old next summer then she would of already come into season by now.

They go into season ( Heat ) every 6-9 months.

That means there first heat cycle will be around 6 months of age.

If your dog hasn't gone through her heat cycle yet then you should contact your vet.

    All poms are diffrent.

But, they all have at least 6 months in between seasons.

Her pedigree means just a lil bit higher then p**p.

Mutts can have good CH lines.

    Take the Puggle for example.

If you breed a Pug or a Beagle with good lines that will mean the mutt pups have CH lines.

    It litterally means squat.

    I own/show/handle pomeranians.

Send me a Picture of your dog, and I can tell you if its even worth it.

    Breeding costs THOUSANDS!

    Of dollars!

And another 2-3 thousand if your dog needs a C-Section.

  5. how about asking your vet about it and get some good educational material from the vet about the subject. you can also do some volunteer work at a shelter or with a breeder to learn a lot more about all sides of breeding. if you choose to do this for a living you will need to get a license and get board certified and all of that good stuff. just saying. oh yha the library has a lot of material to read up on your breed of dog, it's a good way to get some basics for free. good luck.
