Skype itself is free. You do not have to buy it. There are no commitments - you can pay as you go. If you don't like the service you simply stop using it.

"Once you have purchased some Skype Credit you can start to use our great products and features that are not free. Simply sign in to your Account and from there you can check your existing balance or buy more Skype Credit."

If you want to "test" the program, connect with some other Skype callers, or get a friend to sign up for it. Skype-to-Skype calls are always free. That will give you the trial run you want. Again, if you don't like it, stop using it.

Free Credit? No. Cheap credit and cheap rates? Yes.
